Coast Guard rescues man who fell overboard
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Philippines — Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel rescued a 50-year-old man who fell overboard near the port of Lucena on Sunday.
In a report, the PCG said the MV Virgen De Peñafrancia XII was nearing the port and preparing for its passengers to disembark when the man fell.
Ship officers informed the PCG, which immediately sent a search and rescue team along with the Sea Marshal Unit of Southern Tagalog, to bring the man to safety.
Initial investigation showed that the man was mentally unstable, an observation that was confirmed by his niece who was traveling with him from Bapor town in Masbate.
Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection-Emergency Medical Services here transported the man to the Quezon Medical Center for further medical evaluation.
The PCG advised Starhorse Shipping Lines to exercise heightened vigilance during passenger disembarkation and for the public to provide stricter supervision over their loved ones to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
