Fiery mid-round charge nets Quiban Top 10 finish in International Series

MANILA, Philippines — Justin Quiban delivered a fiery mid-round surge to card a closing one-under 71, securing a tied for 10th finish in the International Series India, won by American Ollie Schniederjans in runaway fashion in Gurgaon on Sunday (Monday Manila time).

Coming off a rough third-round 78 in the fog-delayed $2-million championship at the DLF Golf and Country Club, Quiban showed resilience. Despite an early setback with a bogey on No. 2, he rebounded with a birdie on the par-5 No. 4.

A spectacular four-birdie stretch from No. 7 kept him in contention, salvaging a Top 10 finish with a 33-38 final round and a four-day total of two-over 290, earning him $32,083 (P1.8 million).

His performance could have been even stronger if not for a bogey on No. 14 and a double bogey on the par-3 16th. Still, the three-time Philippine Golf Tour winner showcased immense promise in international play.

The tournament featured some of the world’s top players, including No. 12 Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann, Paul Casey and recent Philippine Open champion Julien Sale. But it was Schniederjans who emerged victorious after battling unpredictable weather and multiple delays.

Holding a three-stroke lead over Kazuki Higa after 54 holes, Schniederjans capitalized on a strong back nine, birdieing Nos. 10, 11 and 13 to post a 69 and clinch the title at 10-under 278, taking home $360,000.

DeChambeau mounted a fierce final-round charge with a solid, eagle-spiked 65 but fell short, finishing at 282. Niemann, the second-round leader, carded a 71 to tie Abraham Ancer at 286.

Quiban, who was within striking distance with early rounds of 70 and 71, slipped from joint fifth to a share of 20th after his tough third round. In the final round, he overcame an early bogey with a crucial birdie on No. 4.

A stretch of birdies on Nos. 7, 8 and 9, followed by a brilliant pitch-in birdie on No. 10, briefly put him in contention for a Top 3 finish.

However, missed opportunities on the next three holes, combined with struggles on the par-3 16th, where he made double bogey, prevented a stronger finish. Nevertheless, Quiban closed impressively, hitting 10 fairways and 12 greens with 29 putts.
