Groups to stage rally for VP impeachment
OPPOSITION-LED groups are staging a rally at the People Power Monument on Saturday, calling on the House of Representatives to act on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The Akbayan Party-list and Rep. Perci Cendaña, along with groups Tindig Pilipinas, Fr. Joel Saballa, the Magdalo and Mamamayang Liberal Party-lists, EveryWoman, August Twenty One Movement (ATOM), and several groups, along with 5,000 other participants, are expected to attend.
«The groups will call for immediate action on the impeachment complaints filed over a month ago, stressing that while citizens have fulfilled their duty by filing these cases, it is now Congress' obligation to uphold accountability and good governance through decisive action,» the groups said.
The event «seeks to deliver a powerful message to Congress: Act now. Impeach Sara Duterte,» the rally's description read.
Two of the groups that filed the complaints against Duterte are also involved in the rally.
A mass led by Fr. Bong Sarabia and Fr. Joel Saballa will kick off the event, followed by testimonials from the impeachment complainants, as well as statements coming from key political and sectoral leaders, as well as a «collective call for transparency and justice.»
«The gathering will highlight the critical role of an engaged citizenry in holding public officials accountable for their actions,» they said.
AdvertisementParticipants are also encouraged to wear a white shirt and a peach ribbon, which represents the call for impeachment.
