HPG recovers 76 stolen vehicles

MANILA, Philippines — Forty-five suspected car thieves were arrested and 76 stolen vehicles were recovered in an intensified crackdown on car theft rings by the Philippine National Police.

PNP-Highway Patrol Group director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said the suspects were apprehended by HPG units nationwide in the past month.

The suspects are facing charges for violating Republic Act 10883, the New Anti-Carnapping Act.

“These accomplishments reflect the commitment of the HPG in ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians. Our operations are driven by integrity, vigilance and the pursuit of justice,” Matta said in a statement.

Fifty-nine motor vehicles and 17 motorcycles reported stolen were recovered by HPG operatives.

The HPG conducted 17,185 operations in January, 9,768 by its units and 4,417 jointly with other law enforcement agencies.

Up to 2,954 vehicles were impounded while 5,895 ordinance violation receipts and 24,883 traffic citation tickets were issued by the HPG to erring motorists.

The HPG also confiscated 3,679 unauthorized vehicle modifications.
