Magnitude 5.0 quake jolts Dinagat Islands
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolted Dinagat Island on Sunday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
Phivolcs said the epicenter of the temblor, which occurred at 11:43 p.m. on Sunday, was located nine kilometers north of Libjo town in Dinagat Islands.
State seismologists said the quake was tectonic in origin and with a depth of focus of 104 kilometers.
Intensity 4 was felt in Libjo, Loreto and Tubajon towns in Dinagat Islands. Intensity 3 was recorded also in the islands’ Basilisa and San Jose towns.
Phivolcs recorded Intensity 2 in Dinagat Islands’ Cagdianao and Dinagat towns and in Surigao del Norte’s Claver town.
Instrumental intensity 2 was recorded in Dulag, Leyte and in Sogod and San Francisco towns in Southern Leyte.
Phivolcs does not expect damage from the quake, but warned people of possible aftershocks.
