'Meteor Garden' star Barbie Hsu passes away at 48
MANILA, Philippines — Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the hit Asian series "Meteor Garden", has passed away at the age of 48.
According to reports, Barbie died due to pneumonia after contracting influenza during the Lunar New Year.
"Our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister Barbie Hsu died of influenza-induced pneumonia and unfortunately left us," Barbie's sister and talk show host Dee Hsu said through her agent.
"I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!"
Barbie is survived by her husband, Korean singer Koo Jun-yup, as well as her 10-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son, whom she had with her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
Barbie rose to fame in the Philippines after she portrayed Shan Cai in the hit Asian series "Meteor Garden" in 2001.
