Metro index crimes down 20% – NCRPO
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) recorded a 19.61-percent decrease in index crimes in Metro Manila for January.
The NCRPO attributed the drop in crime volume to increased police visibility.
Index crimes refer to the eight most frequently committed offenses: theft, murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.
Rape cases in Metro Manila dropped to 46 percent followed by physical injuries (37 percent), homicide (29 percent), theft (23 percent) and murder (18 percent).
The NCRPO touted its tactics to curb crime in the region.
“The continuous decline in the number of index crimes is a result of intensified and consistent visibility efforts anchored on the goal of having a police force that can be seen, heard and felt by the community,” the NCRPO said in a statement.
“This can also be attributed to the relentless conduct of police operations against criminals, especially in the fight against illegal drugs, loose firearms, illegal gambling and wanted persons,” police added.
The strict implementation of local ordinances is also a major factor in reducing crime, the NCRPO said.
