MMSU only HEI recognized at Sustainable Energy Awards 2024
MARIANO Marcos State University (MMSU) was the only Philippine higher education institution (HEI) recognized for its contributions to sustainable energy development at the Sustainable Energy Awards 2024.
The special recognition for the Ilocos Norte-based HEI from the Department of Energy (DOE) was accepted by MMSU Vice President for Resource Generation and Management Bjorn Santos on behalf of MMSU Officer-in-Charge President Prima Fe Franco.
Santos described the recognition as a «milestone not only for MMSU but also for the country's renewable energy efforts.»

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla noted that showcasing various institutions' achievements inspires greater support for sustainability, encourages innovation, and accelerates the country's shift to cleaner and greener energy.
Jesslyn Keith Valite of the MMSU Strategic Commination Office said MMSU's partnership with the DOE dates back to the 1980s with the establishment of the Affiliated Renewable Energy Center.
AdvertisementValite noted that over the years, MMSU, home to the National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center, has led several renewable energy initiatives, including bioethanol research and capacity-building programs to help local government units adopt sustainable energy practices.
Thanking DOE, MMSU Vice President for Research, Development and Innovation Nathaniel Alibuyog underscored the importance of their partnership in advancing renewable energy efforts in Northern Luzon and beyond.
Alibuyog also reaffirmed the university's commitment to collaborating on projects that drive renewable energy initiatives.
