Paramount+ To Launch On South Korea’s Coupang Play

Paramount+ is launching on Korean streamer Coupang Play.

Paramount Global Content Distribution has struck a licensing agreement with Korean e-commerce giant Coupang to launch a Paramount+ branded destination on the service. It will become available on Coupang Play early next year.

This comes after Paramount+ came off another Korean streamer, TVING, in June, having been available on that service following a deal in 2022.

Paramount+ currently has similar distribution deals in place with Cosmote in Greece, Streamz in Belgium, MultiChoice in Africa, JioCinema in India, Mono in Thailand, beIN in the Middle East and North Africa and Blast TV in the Philippines.

The local Paramount+-branded tile in Korea will offer content from Paramount+ with Showtime, CBS Studios, MTV Entertainment Studios, Nickelodeon, Republic Pictures and Paramount Pictures, including Dexter: Original Sin, the NCIS and CSI franchises, Fire Country, Halo, Star Trek: Discovery, The Affair and Tulsa King, along with kids shows such as Paw Patrol and films such as The Godfather, Forrest Gump and Pet Sematary.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with Coupang to create this Paramount offering with entertainment Korean audiences love,” said Dan Cohen, Chief Content Licensing Officer, Paramount and President, Republic Pictures.

“Coupang Play has a deep understanding of their customers’ tastes and demand for critically acclaimed and fan favorite films, originals and television series and we’re happy to join together to create value for subscribers, licensees and us.”

“We are happy to bring Paramount’s exceptional content to our customers,” Coupang Play said in a statement. “Coupang Play will continue to expand our offerings to deliver a diverse and differentiated viewing experience.”

The service launched in December 2020, and now offers original series, live sports, domestic and international TV shows and movies.
