PCG deploys over 1k forces for Traslacion

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has mobilized over 1,100 personnel to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, and the Manila City government in ensuring a safe and peaceful celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan has emphasized the importance of PCG's support for the soldiers and the police in ensuring public safety and security during the religious event.

«We are expecting millions of devotees who will attend the series of activities during Black Nazarene Traslacion 2025. The PCG assists in ensuring public safety and security against possible risks, including terrorism, stampedes, fires, and natural disasters, such as earthquakes,» Gavan said on Monday.

PCG personnel deployment, which began on Dec. 30, 2024, and will run until Jan. 10, 2025, includes specialized units and personnel strategically positioned across key areas in Manila.

Its contingent is composed of Coast Guard K9 teams, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, Special Operations Groups (SOGs), Civil Disturbance Management teams, and Deployable Response Groups.

In particular, the PCG teams are stationed at critical points such as Quirino Grandstand, Jones Bridge, and the vicinity of Quiapo Church, where large crowds are expected to gather.

In addition, coastguard intelligence experts, crowd security personnel, and medical officers have been deployed to maximize safety and security during the Traslacion.

To bolster maritime security, Gavan said the PCG has dispatched 21 floating assets to conduct operations in Pasig River and the nearby Manila Bay area. These operations are complemented by nine land vehicles performing roving inspections throughout the city.

«We are one with our Catholic brothers and sisters in celebrating the Annual Feast of the Black Nazarene. The millions of devotees can rest assured that they will have a successful and memorable commemoration through the support of the national government and law enforcement agencies that come together to a common cause — which is to ensure zero-casualty during Traslacion 2025,» Admiral Gavan said.
