Sniffing dog finds cannabis hidden in parcel
BAGUIO CITY — A drug-sniffing dog from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) discovered dried marijuana leaves hidden inside a parcel received by a private courier service provider at its office along Naguillan Road over the weekend.
Two clear plastic sachets, one containing three rolled papers with dried marijuana leaves, and another sealed sachet with approximately 3 grams of dried marijuana, were detected by the dog, according to PDEA-Cordillera Director Derrick Carreon.
The seized cannabis is valued at P410.
According to Carreon, the courier service operator opened the parcel in front of witnesses after the PDEA’s Narcotic Detection Dog gave a positive signal for the presence of illegal substances.
Carreon, however, claimed that the consignee, who was about to claim the package, fled on a motorcycle upon noticing that his transaction was taking longer than usual.
The PDEA official said they will pursue the named consignee using the drug evidence turned over to them through the PDEA-CAR Regional Laboratory Section.
