(2024.09.23) President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act (RA) No. 12021, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers, in a ceremonial signing held at the Ceremonial Hall, Malacañan Palace

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act (RA) No. 12021, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers, in a ceremonial signing held at the Ceremonial Hall, Malacañan Palace, Manila 23 September 2024.

RA 12021 aims to protect the rights and overall welfare of domestic and overseas Filipino seafarers, as well as promote their full employment by creating a comprehensive framework for preserving and improving the rights and welfare of Filipino seafarers in local and international shipping and by improving their mariners' skills through education, training, and cadetship programs.

In his message, President Marcos Jr. emphasized that the signing of the law is part of the government’s collective acknowledgment of seafarers’ sacrifices and contributions to the country.

Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) Secretary Mark Llandro L. Mendoza, together with other PLLO officials and staff, attended the said ceremonial signing.
