4.36 million register for 2025 elections

MANILA, Philippines — The number of aspiring voters intending to participate in the May 2025 national and local elections has exceeded 4.3 million, according to the Commission on Elections.

The Comelec reported that it has processed up to 4.36 million applications since voter registration resumed in February.

Among regions, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) posted the highest number of registrants with 742,925 followed by the National Capital Region with 603,496.

Central Luzon ranked third with 510,503 applicants followed by Davao region with 255,213 and Central Visayas with 230,954.

The Cordilleras recorded the lowest number of applicants with 57,709 followed by Caraga with 111,075 and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) with 112,103.

Of the total applicants, 2.1 million are men.

The voter registration will run until Sept. 30.

Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said the Cordilleras has the lowest number of aspiring voters because it also has the lowest population among regions in the country.

He said most of the young Cordillerans are studying in Ilocos Norte and Cagayan Valley, where they registered as voters.

“They cast their votes in these areas. They no longer go home just to vote, because it is difficult for them to travel, especially if their towns or residences are located in remote and mountainous areas,” Laudiangco said.
