4 held for renting, stealing car

MANILA, Philippines — Four men were arrested for allegedly renting and stealing a car in Novaliches, Quezon City on Saturday.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) identified the suspects as Joel Tumala Jasareno, 43; Richard Rosel Cuason, 40; Carlo Edrian Maldo, 26, and Mark Jason Vallega, 24.

On Nov. 28, Maldo reportedly posed as a customer and rented a vehicle owned by Aljory Morales for two days.

Maldo failed to return the vehicle despite reminders and demands from the owner.

Unable to locate the vehicle due to a malfunctioning GPS device, Morales sought assistance from the QCPD Station 4 to recover her vehicle and apprehend the suspects.

Operatives from the district’s anti-carnapping unit and QCPD Station 4 conducted a follow-up operation along General Luis street in Barangay Nova Proper.

The owner identified her black Toyota Vios with license plate DAV 3417, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the vehicle.

The suspects were charged with violating Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Law of 2016 before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
