4 Indians who detained fellow Indians nabbed

FOUR Indian citizens were arrested by the Las Pinas police for allegedly robbing and detaining four Indian students.

Information made available by the Southern Police District yesterday identified the four through their aliases as Devesh, 22; Ramanathan, 22; Sanjay, 22; and Venkata, 21.

Two of their cohorts identified by their aliases Shivarishi and Lmahen are at large and are now the subject of a manhunt operation.

The SPD report said the four illegally detained four of their fellow countrymen studying in the country from July 4 to 5.

The four were reportedly detained after they failed to pay P200,000 in unpaid balance from a car accident settlement.

The victims rented from the suspects a sports utility vehicle that figured in an accident in Batangas last May 24.

The suspects asked the victims to pay P700,000 but the latter managed to pay only P500,000.

The police got wind of the kidnapping after a complaint was lodged before the Las Pinas police but the SPD report did not identify the complainant.

During the rescue operation last July 5 which also led to the arrest of the suspects, the police seized from the suspects the ATM cards of the victims, P120,000 in cash supposedly taken from the victim’s bank accounts, several cellular phones and a wooden broomstick and metal dustpan that the victims said the four used to assault them while in captivity.
