Angara reiterates no-collection policy in schools

EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara reiterated the DepEd’s no-collection policy in schools several days after classes for school year 2024-2025 formally started.

Angara’s order was contained in DepEd Memorandum Order No. 41 dated August 2.

However, Angara said the prohibition does not cover the membership fees of students with the Red Cross, Girl Scouts of the Philippines, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines and the campus publication.

Angara also reminded teachers of another existing DepEd order – DepEd Order No.49 Series of 2022 – banning them from “unwarranted solicitation and collection of contributions.”

He said that RA 4206 provides that non-compliance with the prohibition “shall be penalized with a fine or imprisonment for not more than one month, or both, in the discretion of the court.”

The education chief tasked DepEd regional and division offices to strictly monitor compliance with the prohibition.
