Aquathlon, MMA add to Kinabayo Festival ‘s success | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Dapitan City was abuzz with energy and celebration as the Kinabayo Festival 2024 showcased a series of sporting events that perfectly blended athleticism, tradition, and martial arts.

Organized by the city government of Dapitan headed by mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos, three major events drew the community together while spotlighting the city’s rich culture and heritage.

The festivities commenced with the exhilarating aquathlon, a demanding race combining swimming and running.

Competitors from across the region took part in the challenging event, demonstrating their endurance and agility. It did not only provide a captivating spectacle for spectators but also celebrate the spirit of physical excellence.

After the two-in-one race, action shifted to the first ever Dapitan Kinabayo Mayor Bullet Horse Show at the historic Punto del Desembarco.

One of the festival’s highlights in honor of their beloved patron Saint James the Greater, the horse show mirrors Dapitan’s deep-rooted equestrian heritage.

It was no less a crucial step towards mayor Bullet’s vision of attracting visitors and enhancing the city’s tourism industry.

Aside from the aquathlon and horse show, the electrifying Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card at the Dapitan City Cultural and Sports Center was also a huge success.

Organized by the Dapitan Tourism Office headed by Apple Marie Agolong, the slambang show has attracted MMA enthusiasts all over the country. It was a thrilling display of skills and bravery inside the cage.

The triple undertaking underscores  the city’s commitment to preserve its traditions while embracing new opportunities for growth and community engagement. — (FREEMAN)
