Boy Scouts of the PH bares TOBS

THE Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) has awarded the winners of this year's Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS).

The winners are John Jazper R. Luna (National Capital Region – Manila Council), Jason Paul G. Mendez (Western Visayas Region – Negros Occidental Council), Johann Sebastian Capanas (Eastern Visayas Region – Cebu Council), Jedryc Romero (Southern Tagalog Region – San Pablo City Council), Hannah Angela A. Arribas ( Eastern Visayas Region – Cebu Council), Queen Marjorie Arroyo (Southern Tagalog Region – Batangas Council), Samantha Lorraine Jauco (Central Luzon Region – Tarlac Council), Ethan Michael Aguirre (National Capital Region – Quezon City Council), Alester Galieto Jude Capacio (Western Mindanao Region – Zamboanga Sibugay Council) and JP Nelson M. Sumando (Eastern Mindanao Region – Surigao del Norte Council).

They were chosen from the 20 finalists representing the 10 scouting regions.

The national search for senior scouts, male or female, began in July.

Part of the criteria for the selection of winners are community service, which refers to the leadership and involvement of Scouts in projects where the beneficiary is the community; scholastic leadership or membership involvement in school-related activities; character development and skills; and the interview, which includes communication skills and personality.

Winners of the search will receive a two-year college scholarship, cash and other prizes.

The TOBS Committee Selection chairman said the primary obligation of the TOBS winners is to «radiate a ray of hope to the young boys and girls of the land that, in the midst of life's crises, there is hope, there is a way to be good, and there is a home that they can own.» «I urge you to convey this message of goodwill to all the boys you will meet along the way in your life: Scouting is where they could find another chance to make the most of their lives,» the chairman said.
