Cacdac gets CA confirmation
THE Commission on Appointments (CA) on Tuesday gave its nod to Hans Leo Cacdac as secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
A son of a World War II veteran, Cacdac took various jobs, including sound engineer, public school teacher, caregiver and daycare worker.
As a lawyer, he served as director of the Department of Labor and Employment's Labor Relations Bureau, administrator of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board, as well as deputy administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Secretary Hans Leo CacdacCacdac had rendered free legal service to poor Filipinos as a member of Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panlegal.
Sen. Joel Villanueva said Cacdac's appointment was «well-deserved.»
«We have been in public service with Secretary Hans Cacdac for about two decades now, and during this period, he never, not even once, let us down. He was known for his decisive actions on the needs of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs),» he added.
AdvertisementCavite 2nd District Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla said Cacdac came to OFWs' aid during the Covid-19 pandemic.
«Secretary Cacdac was instrumental to the systematic, safe, and expedient repatriation of more than 1 million overseas Filipinos during the Covid-19 pandemic,» she said.
Sens. Grace Poe, Cynthia Villar and Risa Hontiveros hailed Cacdac's appointment.
«His vast understanding of labor and migration policies, coupled with his passion for serving our kababayans (countrymen) here and abroad, is truly worthy of admiration by everyone in the service. With his extensive work experience and knowledge, particularly on issues involving OFWs, I'm confident he will guide the DMW to greater heights,» Poe said.

Hontiveros said the depth of Cacdac's experience in responding to OFWs' problems was coupled with a deep sense of compassion.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo said he had seen Cacdac's exemplary work when he was still administrator of POEA and OWWA.
