Cebu student joins Sara in Korea visit

A FOURTH-GRADE student from Danao City, Cebu joined Vice President Sara Duterte in her official visit to South Korea to participate in the Global Education and Innovation Summit (GEIS) last September 21.

The Office of the Vice President said Kester, a nine-year-old student of Tito Melecio Elementary School, was the third participant in the You Can Be VP (YCBVP) program, which aims to give participants the chance to see first-hand the job of the vice president by allowing them to follow her and observe her official engagements.

The project, which was launched in 2022, will also encourage other learners to aim high and develop their leadership skills.

Participants should have impressive academic records and must show commitment to finish their studies and fulfill their dreams.

Kester joined Duterte in her official engagements, including being one of the guest speakers during the GEIS, as well as meeting with high ranking officials from South Korea and meeting with the members of the Filipino community.

During her visit to the Filipino community, she saluted overseas Filipino workers for their sacrifices and hard work, while also strengthening the relationship, cooperation and good relations between the Philippines and South Korea.

«Nagpapasalamat po ako sa inyo dahil naitataas niyo ang bandera ng Pilipinas sa ibang bansa. And it makes us proud na naririnig namin sa mga dayuhan ang appreciation nila sa mga trabaho ninyo (I thank you because you raise the flag of the country in other countries. And it makes us proud that foreigners appreciate your work),» Duterte said.

Several overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in South Korea said they felt «honored» since it was the first time a vice president made time to visit them.
