Comelec: No extension of voter registration

WITH just three weeks left in the voter registration period for the May 2025 national and local polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday said there will be no extension of the September 30 deadline.

In a phone interview, Comelec chairman George Garcia said the poll body has allocated more than enough time since February 12, 2024 to conduct voter registration activities nationwide.

“The registration period will end by September 30. No extension will be expected,” said Garcia.

As of September 7, there are now 5,940,192 applications for voter registration filed since February 12.

Still having the most number of applicants is Calabarzon with 984,861; followed by the National Capital Region with 782,838; and Central Luzon with 671,859.

Having the lowest number of registrants, on the other hand, is the Cordillera Administrative Region with 83,732.

On the other hand, the Comelec said there are now 5,376,630 deactivated voters, as of July 15.

It said 5,371,376 deactivated voters are those who failed to vote in two successive preceding regular elections as shown by their voting records.

There were also 4,212 votes who were excluded due to court orders, and 1,004 who failed to validate their registration applications.

Voter registration activities are held from Mondays to Fridays, including Saturdays and holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
