Davao’s new drug war: 51 suspects nabbed
MANILA, Philippines — Fifty-one drug suspects have been arrested in Davao City since Mayor Sebastian Duterte declared a new war on drugs.
Police said 331.3 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P2.25 million and marijuana leaves worth P15,057 were seized in 45 anti-drug operations from March 22 to April 1.
The number of drug suspects killed in anti-narcotics operations remained at seven.
Seven police officers were relieved from their posts in connection with the deaths of the seven suspects.
The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service has started its probe into drug-related killings in Davao City.
The Commission on Human Rights has also initiated an investigation into the killings as it expressed grave concern over Duterte’s recent declaration of war against illegal drugs in the city.
