David breaks out for La Salle in win over UST

MANILA, Philippines -- Joshua David finally showed out for the La Salle Green Archers.

After sitting out UAAP Seasons 84 and 85 due to an ACL injury, David suited up for the Green Archers at last.

He did not score in his first two games against FEU and Ateneo, while playing a total of 20 minutes and 30 seconds.

Against UST though, David stood out.

The guard scored 14 points in less than 18 minutes of play, while grabbing a rebound, dishing out an assist and stealing the ball once.

He shot five of eight from the field, making all of his 2-pointers while going 2/5 from 3-point territory.

“For me, it is really a big deal that I was given a chance by Coach Topex [Robinson] to come back and play. I am thankful that I was able to step in the game again,” David told reporters in Filipino after La Salle’s 91-71 drubbing of UST.

Despite this, David said that the players would just go with their respective roles in their team.

The strong performance of David could be tied to starting guard Evan Nelle, who vouched for the former’s strong play.

“I was not the one who gave Josh those extra minutes. With five minutes left, Evan was already about to sub and then Josh made that first jumper. He [told] me, ‘I think Josh will stay in the game. He needs the opportunity and he’s playing well,’” Robinson said.

“So, he went back. But, that’s Evan for me. We might see him very pissed off, forcing passes just for you to offer the position to your teammate. It's really something that defines his character as a leader and hopefully defines also as a team."

La Salle is currently 2-1 in the tournament.
