DBM approves P400 million to boost PNP mobility

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of almost P400 million for the procurement of motor vehicles for the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman approved the issuance of the authority to purchase motor vehicles (APMV) worth P396.37 million, to strengthen the capability of the PNP.

The funding will be used for the procurement of 402 motor vehicles of the police organization.

Broken down, the amount covers 40 4x2 patrol jeeps, 115 units of 4x4 personnel carriers, 40 light transport vehicles, 10 vans, 183 light motorcycles and 14 explosive ordnance disposal vehicles.

The funding will be sourced from the budget of the PNP under this year’s General Appropriations Act, Pangandaman said.

“We believe that a well-equipped police force is better positioned in promoting public safety,” she said.

Under DBM guidelines, it is the policy of the government to ensure the efficient and effective use of motor vehicles.

As such, motor vehicles to be acquired are limited to those deemed necessary and appropriate for the officials authorized to use office transport vehicles or for the performance of functions requiring mobility.

APMVs are being issued to government agencies, state universities and colleges, state-owned corporations as well as local government units.
