Disney, 'Star Wars' confirm 'The Mandalorian' movie, 'Ahsoka' Season 2

MANILA, Philippines — This is the Way.

Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed the development of two big-budget projects in the "Star Wars" franchise, including the big screen debut of fan-favorite Grogu (or as the Internet calls him, Baby Yoda).

The studios announced that after three seasons and a fourth in development, "The Mandalorian" would be heading to the big screen and enter production later this year.

"The Mandalorian" stars Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter Din Djarin who ends up caring for the Force-sensitive youngling Grogu.

Series creator Jon Favreau will direct the movie. He will also produce alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and longtime "Star Wars" creative Dave Filoni.

The Mandalorian and Grogu are headed to the big screen.

Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production later this year.

"I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created," Favreau said in a statement. "The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting."

Lucasfilm has several other feature films lined up in the "Star Wars" franchise to be helmed by Filoni, James Mangold, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Filoni is also working on the development for the second season of "Ahsoka," a spin-off series of "The Mandalorian" which saw Rosario Dawson as the fan-favorite Jedi.

"Ahsoka" ended with the titular character, after killing Morgan Elsbeth played by Filipino-American actress Diana Lee Inosanto, being stranded on a different galaxy with her apprentice Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) while Lars Mikkelsen's Grand Admiral Thrawn seeks to restore Imperial power.

Before "Ahsoka" returns, "Star Wars" will have on its series front "Skeleton Crew" starring Jude Law and "The Acolyte" starring Amandla Stenberg, "Squid Game" star Lee Jung-jae, and Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto.
