[Feature Success Story] From Humble Beginnings to Academic Excellence: A Scholar's Triumph

This is the story of Jamaika Aguhob, a graduate of Mindanao State University-Marawi City with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and the unwavering support of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) through the DAR Scholarship Program for the Dependents of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (DSP-DARBs).

Jamaika faced significant challenges due to financial difficulties. The loss of her mother and her father's subsequent struggles added to her obstacles. Despite doubts about affording college, she was encouraged by her father, who deeply valued education and never gave up on his aspirations for her.

A catalyst for personal growth

Jamaika shared that more than anything, the scholarship had been a catalyst for her growth. Beyond the academic realm, the scholarship had also fostered in her the importance of perseverance, commitment, and self-belief.

For her, the DAR Scholarship program believed in her potential and inspired her to believe in herself. Knowing that the scholarship program entrusted her with the opportunity, it urged and motivated her to excel in her chosen field and challenge herself intellectually.

She is now a licensed Agriculturist after taking the licensure examination for Agriculture.

“The support of the DAR Scholarship Program has been instrumental in shaping who I am today, and I feel a strong sense of responsibility to give back,” she said.

In 2023, she was fortunate to work in DAR, the agency that had been her pillar of support throughout her academic journey. While working full-time, she is now also open to the idea of pursuing further education to expand her knowledge and skills, make a meaningful impact and contribute to the continued success of the organization. For her, this would not only enhance her professional capabilities but also enable her to contribute more effectively.
