Regarding overtime pay
Dear PAO, I worked for a domestic shipping company that delivers consignments from Metro Manila to different parts of the Philippines. I resigned from the shipping company last month. I would like to know if I can receive overtime pay since I stayed in the cargo vessel for at least three months whenever I was on duty. Although we did not work beyond eight hours, we could only leave the shipping vessel once all the cargoes were delivered. I am now demanding overtime pay from my former employer before I sign the quitclaim they sent me. Am I legally entitled to overtime pay? Anthony
Void agreements involving marriage
Dear PAO, My cousin and her husband have been married for 17 years, and they have three minor children. However, they are no longer together. Her husband now has a girlfriend, and my cousin has a lesbian partner. They «separated» because her husband cheated on her five times. Her husband wants to remarry and since they now have their own lives, they both agreed to live separately and even made an agreement before the barangay that they will now be terminating their marriage and declaring it as void or annulled. Is their waiver / compromise agreement valid? Cherry
