Fil-Am H.E.R. to star in 'The Color Purple'; Warner Bros releases trailer

MANILA, Philippines — Warner Bros. released the trailer of the musical drama "The Color Purple."

Produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones, the musical drama features an ensemble cast that includes Taraji P. Henson, Filipino-American singer-songwriter H.E.R., Halle Bailey and Fantasia Barrino. 

“The Color Purple” is a story about the extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share an unbreakable bond. This bold new take on the beloved classic is directed by Blitz Bazawule (“Black Is King,” “The Burial of Kojo”).

The screenplay is by Marcus Gardley (“Maid,” “The Chi”), based on the novel by Alice Walker and based on the musical stage play, book (of the musical stage play) by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. The executive producers are Alice Walker, Rebecca Walker, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Carla Gardini, Mara Jacobs, Adam Fell, Courtenay Valenti, Sheila Walcott and Michael Beugg.

In cinemas starting January 24, 2024, “The Color Purple” is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Discovery company.
