Fugitive in Vhong Navarro case surrenders

MANILA, Philippines — Fugitive businessman Ferdinand Guerrero, who was convicted of illegally detaining actor-host Vhong Navarro, surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) yesterday afternoon.

NBI Director Medardo de Lemos personally received Guerrero at a building in Makati, the bureau reported.

Guerrero, along with business partner Cedric Lee, model Deniece Cornejo and mixed martial arts practitioner Simeon Raz were found guilty of illegal detention for ransom and meted life terms by the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153 on May 2.

Cornejo, Raz and Lee are detained at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa. Lee surrendered to the NBI on the day the court handed down the conviction.

Meanwhile, Guerrero’s lawyer Alex Avisado said that they would file various motions, particularly concerning Guerrero’s health condition.

Guerrero reportedly has a heart ailment and is currently under medication, with NBI medical staff monitoring his condition.

He underwent medical procedures and a check-up to assess his health status and also completed the standard mugshot and fingerprinting process.
