Hair, there and everywhere as DILG asks barbers, salons' help to stop oil spill in Bataan

MANILA, Philippines — Hair to save the day. No pun intended but it is one of the solutions the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is proposing as it calls on all barber shops and salons to donate cut hair and coconut husks to contain the oil spill in Limay, Bataan.

In an advisory on Wednesday, the DILG also called on the public to donate hay, which would be used as oil booms to prevent the leak from spreading.

The DILG said that «every contribution counts and will help in resolving this crisis quickly.''

The DILG said skimmers would be used to remove the oil from the water and dispersants to dissolve it naturally.

The DILG said it was coordinating its clean up efforts with the affected local governments and communities.

Likewise, the agency said that the LGUs may provide to the affected communities financial assistance and alternative sources of livelihood to ease the impact of the oil spill.

It will be recalled that on July 25, the motor tanker Terranova owned by Shogun Ships Company Incorporated carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil capsized around 3.6 nautical miles or around seven kilometers east of Lamao Point in Bataan.
