ICTSI Manila terminal further boosts capacity

THE Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) has completed the commissioning of three new quay cranes, enhancing port services and increasing capacity to meet modern container shipping demands.

Christian Lozano, MICT's chief operating officer, said, «The acquisition of these new quay cranes represents a significant step forward in MICT's expansion and modernization. Their addition allows us to handle cargo loads more efficiently, leading to faster vessel turnaround times and better overall operations.»

With this latest addition, MICT has the largest quay crane fleet in the Philippines, with 18 units. The new cranes improve operational efficiency, particularly during peak periods and high cargo volumes, ensuring smoother and more predictable operations for stakeholders and enhancing the customer experience with more reliable and timely services.

In addition to the new cranes, MICT has launched Phase 2 of its Berth 8 expansion, which includes building a 300-meter wharf and a 10-hectare container yard. This project is expected to boost MICT's capacity by 200,000 TEUs, bringing the total to 3.5 million TEUs.

The expansion will also see the arrival of three more quay cranes in 2027, designed to handle ultra-large container vessels with capacities of up to 18,000 TEUs.
