Las Piñas shootout: Rob suspect dead, 2 cops hurt

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected robber was killed and two police officers were wounded in a shootout in Las Piñas at past noon yesterday.

The incident occurred at the corner of Marquez and Analiza streets in Barangay Manuyo Dos at around 12:55 p.m., according to a police report.

The still unidentified suspect allegedly entered the house of a retired military officer, who managed to get his gun but was disarmed by the suspect, city police chief Col. Sandro Tafalla said in a dzRH interview.

When the suspect ran away with the gun, the victim sought assistance from police officers conducting a routine patrol in the subdivision.

The policemen were conducting a follow-up operation when they spotted the suspect, Tafalla said.

“When the suspect was cornered, instead of surrendering, he engaged in a firefight. As a result, the two police officers were wounded. The suspect, unfortunately, was killed,” he said.

The two police officers were brought to the hospital for medical treatment. They were reported to be in stable condition.
