LPA, ITCZ, easterlies to dump more rain

A low pressure area (LPA) off Palawan, an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the easterlies are bringing scattered and isolated rains in most parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

The LPA, which has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression, was estimated some 165 kilometers (kms) west-northwest of Coron, weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.

He said Pagasa is monitoring a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility or exactly 2,540kms east of extreme Northern Luzon.

«The weather disturbance is also unlikely to enter PAR and affect the weather conditions in the country,» Aurelio said.

He said the LPA and ITCZ are bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Quezon, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Bicol Region.

The easterlies — winds coming from the east that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid and warm weather — are affecting Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon.

The ITCZ — an imaginary line where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere meet — is also bringing isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
