LPA off Northern Luzon may turn into tropical depression - Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines—The low pressure area (LPA) spotted off extreme Northern Luzon could develop into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday.

The LPA was estimated 1,155 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, Pagasa said.

Once it enters the country, the weather disturbance will be named «Ferdie,» weather specialist Robert Badrina said.

In the meantime, the southwest monsoon or habagat continues to affect areas in Luzon including Ilocos Region, Apayao and Abra where occasional rains would prevail.

It would bring overcast skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.

The same weather system would also affect Metro Manila, CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Bicol Region where isolated rain showers would be likely, Pagasa said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated downpours or thunderstorms.
