Magnitude 6.0 quake hits Davao Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Davao Occidental yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the quake hit 434 kilometers south of Balut Island in Sarangani at around 9:39 a.m.
State seismologists said there was no tsunami threat due to the temblor.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Glan, Sarangani. It was felt at Intensity 1 in General Santos City.
Instrumental Intensity 3 was recorded in Malunggon, Sarangani and Instrumental Intensity 2 in Alabel, Sarangani and Koronadal, South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said there was no expected damage from the quake, but aftershocks could follow.
