Manila shortens work hours for 'Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day'

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Manila announced the suspension of work at 3 p.m. Monday, in celebration of the «Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.»

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan signed Executive Order (EO) 31, in line with the nationwide observance aimed at giving government employees the chance to spend quality time with their families.

«This is more than just a day off from work — this is an opportunity to foster stronger family relationships. As a mother and leader, I understand how precious family time is, and this executive order reflects my commitment to promoting family values among our employees and the entire city,» she said in a statement.

However, the mayor clarified that essential services such as healthcare, disaster response, and other vital operations would continue.

«While we give our employees time to be with their families, our commitment to the public remains. Key services will still be in place to ensure safety and well-being.»

The work suspension applies exclusively to City Hall and local government offices, with full operations expected to resume on Tuesday.

The measure is pursuant to Memorandum Circular 64 issued by Malacañang last week, shortening work hours in government offices on Sept. 23.
