Marcos wants old school calendar implemented next year

MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said he expects the Department of Education (DepEd) to revert to the old school calendar next year.

The chief executive said he asked Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte to circle back to the old calendar amid the cancellation of face-to-face classes due to the extreme hot weather brought by the El Niño.

«I Inday Sara to give me a concerted plan because it looks like we don't need to wait any further and it looks very much needed already,» he told reporters at the sidelines of the observance of Government-Owned or-Controlled Corporations Day in Pasay City.

«I don't see any objections really from anyone especially with the El Niño being what it is,» he added.

The education department earlier said it will submit a recommendation to Malacañang to end school year 2024-2025 by March 2025 in order to revert to the old academic calendar the following school year.
