Maynilad reiterates MWSS plea to Metro Manila residents: Conserve water

MANILA, Philippines —  Maynilad Water Services Inc. has joined the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in asking Metro Manila residents to continue conserving water as Angat Dam remains below its minimum operating level of 180 meters.

“Maynilad, together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and MWSS, enjoins everyone to take part in the water conservation effort at all times,” Maynilad said yesterday.

Maynilad advised customers not to be complacent with the use of the water supply following the onset of the rainy season and the end of El Niño as announced by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Angat Dam was down by 0.27 meters after it reached 175.41 meters compared to its previous level of 175.68 meters.

It was 4.59 meters below its minimum operating level of 180 meters and 34.59 meters below its normal high water level of 210 meters.

“Despite the rains in the past few weeks, these are not yet enough to fully replenish the dams. So everyone is encouraged to use water efficiently,” Maynilad said.

It enjoined everyone to take part in maximizing the limited water resource by following water-saving tips such as using a bucket and dipper for bathing, maximizing the load of the washing machine and limiting the use of running water in cleaning fruits and vegetables.
