Med tech student assaulted, shot in Tuguegarao
A THIRD-YEAR medical technology student of Saint Paul University in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan was injured after she was assaulted and shot by a fellow student inside the campus last Saturday.
A report from the Cagayan Provincial Police Office named the victim as Althea Vivien Mendoza, a resident of Ilagan City, Isabela who is staying at a boarding house in Tuguegarao.
The suspect, Kristian Rafael Ramos, also a third-year medical technology student at the same school, is now under police custody.
Police said the incident occurred at 5:33 p.m. last Saturday at the school’s parking area.
Initial investigation showed Jun-Jun Ignacio and Mark Anthony Laude, a security guard and a library staff of the school, respectively, heard the victim shouting for help inside a parked Hyundai Accent car.
Police said Ignacio and Laude approached the car and saw Ramos physically assaulting Mendoza.
Ramos later alighted from the vehicle with a pistol which he pointed at Ignacio and Laude, forcing them to run away.
Police said Ramos later shot Mendoza, who was brought to the Cagayan United Medical Doctors Hospital.
