More dengue cases this year

THE number of dengue cases recorded from January 1 and July 27 this year is 33 percent higher than in the same period last year, according to the Department of Health.

The DOH said 128,834 cases were recorded for the period this year, while only 97,211 dengue cases were recorded last year.

The DOH has noted an upward trend in the past weeks.

From the 12,153 cases recorded from June 16 to 29, 18,349 cases were recorded from June 30 to July 13.

“There is continuous rise in dengue numbers in the recent weeks,” said the DOH.

However, the DOH said there were fewer dengue deaths recorded this year, at 337, compared to the 378 dengue deaths during the same time period last year.

“The DOH sees the lower number of deaths this year as an indication of people seeking early consultation, and hospitals doing better case management,” said the DOH.

Dengue is am among common diseases in the Philippines during the rainy season.
