Over 1,600 jobseekers hired in DOLE fair

OVER 1,600 jobseekers successfully found jobs during the nationwide job fair held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) last week.

In a phone interview, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said there were 1,603 jobseekers that were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the DOLE Job Fair as part of the “Serbisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat.”

“Out of the registered 12,364 jobseekers, (there were) a total of 1,603, who are HOTS, or a placement rate of 12.97 percent,” said Laguesma.

He noted that the one-day event held in 71 venues across the country had 861 participating employers.

Laguesma said the employers that participated offered a total of 86,213 job vacancies.

Employment opportunities mostly offered were production workers, machine operators, customer service, cashiers, sales clerks, painters, carpenters, service crews, call centers, retail sales, construction, and financial and insurance activities.

Laguesma said he was not yet satisfied with the placement rate at the last job fair.

“I would like to see more than that percentage. I really want to see a situation where all available vacancies offered during a job fair are filled up,” said Laguesma.
