PAGASA: LPA, southwest monsoon to bring rains

MANILA, Philippines — Two weather systems are currently bringing rain over parts of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

A low-pressure area (LPA) was monitored over the coastal waters of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

It is bringing scattered rains over the Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, Marinduque and Romblon.

State weather forecasters said there is a slim chance the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next few days as a high vertical wind shear is affecting the said weather system.

The LPA is forecast to head northwestward toward the eastern side of southern Luzon and will affect those parts of the country.

The trough of the LPA is bringing scattered rains over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Scattered rains are forecast over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, the rest of MIMAROPA and the rest of Mindanao.

Localized thunderstorms may bring isolated rains over the rest of Luzon.

PAGASA warned of flash floods or landslides in the affected areas due to moderate to heavy rains.
