Peaceful Holy Week in Metro Manila – NCRPO

MANILA, Philippines — The crime volume in Metro Manila dropped by 30.42 percent during the Holy Week, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

In a statement yesterday, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police recorded no untoward incidents in Metro Manila during the Holy Week.

“The observance of Holy Week in Metro Manila was generally peaceful,” Nartatez said.

“We are grateful to the public, particularly the Catholic devotees, for their cooperation, which has played a vital role in maintaining peace and order,” he added.

Nartatez also attributed the peaceful observance of the Holy Week to the heightened security measures of police units across the region.

The NCRPO deployed 12,407 police personnel who were fielded in key areas, including places of worship, major thoroughfares, transport terminals and commercial establishments.

Police also coordinated with local government units, other law enforcement agencies and private stakeholders to augment security, according to Nartatez.

He said the NCRPO would remain on alert to secure vacationers heading back to Metro Manila.

Nartatez noted that the NCRPO is also prepared for the increased number of travelers during the summer season.
