PH ready to strengthen ties with Cambodia

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Philippines was ready to strengthen its ties with Cambodia during his meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea in Malacañang earlier this week.

«I hope we can continue this. We will foster this relationship and continue to improve the relationship that we have had for many, many years,» Marcos told Sok Chenda Sophea.

Marcos underscored the importance of continuous dialogues and cooperation with Cambodia and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).

The Cambodian official was in Manila at the invitation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo to co-lead the 4th Meeting of the Cambodia-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

This was the first official visit of Sok Chenda Sophea to an Asean member country and the first by a Cambodian foreign minister since 2017.

The goal of the two-day meeting was to assess the progress of implementation of agreements reached during the 3rd Cambodia-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in December 2021.
