PH, South Korea seek bigger tourist traffic

THE Philippines and South Korea have agreed to increase weekly seat entitlements on flights between the two countries by up to 30,000 to promote tourist traffic, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Monday.

The agreement was reached during the two-day consultation between the delegations of the Philippines and South Korea last July 4, the DOTr said.

The talks culminated with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a view to improving the air services relations between the two countries.

The DoTr said for the seven years since the last MoU was signed in 2017, the designated airlines of the two countries could only operate up to 20,000 weekly seats each from Manila to points in South Korea and vice versa.

In the agreement, the two countries agreed to set a 30,000 weekly seat capacity exclusively for the Manila-Incheon route and to impose no limits on flights from Manila to other points in Korea.
