PH wins Best Ports of Call 2024 award

THE Philippines has won the Best Ports of Call 2024 award and launched the Cruise Visa Waiver (CVW) Program to enhance its appeal to international cruise ships.

The award, presented at the 10th Asia Cruise Awards in Jeju Island, Korea, recognizes the country's success in revitalizing its cruise industry post-pandemic.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said, «It is imperative for us to fully harness the potential of our destinations, as well as to open up opportunities nationwide. The Cruise Visa Waiver Program makes the Philippines more accessible, welcoming and attractive to the world.»

Frasco highlighted that the National Tourism Development Plan 2023-2028 identifies cruise tourism as a strategic product with immense potential. «With 7,641 islands, there is vast potential to expand our cruise tourism portfolio,» she said.

Justice Assistant Secretary Majken Anika Gran-Ong supported the initiative: «The CVW Program is of great significance to our country's tourism, immigration and economic sectors and is expected to be a catalyst of economic vitality, cultural exchange and enhanced global connectivity.»

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said, «This program represents a major step toward achieving the Bagong Pilipinas goal.»
