Philippine Coast Guard on alert

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is on heightened alert status in preparation for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, PCG Commandant, said that want to ensure the safety and security of the public during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Gavan directed all Coast Guard districts, stations, and sub-stations to intensify efforts in providing a reliable and comfortable experience for travelers.

Key measures include the installation of Malasakit Help Desks at ports, harbors, and various public transportation hubs across the nation, in collaboration with other agencies under the Department of Transportation.

«Ensuring the safety of the riding public is our utmost priority,» Gavan said. «Our teams will be deployed across maritime routes and transport hubs to assist passengers and maintain order during this significant time.»

To bolster security, Coast Guard K9 units and specialized security teams will conduct thorough inspections. These measures are aimed at mitigating risks and ensuring a secure travel environment for all.

Additionally, medical teams will be stationed at the Malasakit Help Desks to provide immediate assistance to sea passengers, addressing any health-related concerns that may arise during their travels.
