PHLPost honors Coyiuto with stamps

THE Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) released stamps to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of entrepreneur and philanthropist Robert Coyiuto and his contributions to the Philippine Insurance Industry.

The commemorative stamp features a black and white photo of Coyiuto, inscribed with «Insurance Industry Trailblazer,» designed by PHLPost in-house graphic artist Ryman Dominic Albuladora.

Behind him is the Prudential Guarantee and Assurance Inc. logo representing his sons — Robert Jr., James, Samuel, Peter and Miguel — who carried their father's legacy and propelled the company to more success.

The official First Day Cover includes a sketch of Robert by Rafael Casal, a rubber stamp image of the Robert Coyiuto 100th Birth Centenary Rosal Logo, and the Rosa Aragon logo with the five vertical lines representing his five sons and four horizontal lines representing the daughters.

Coyiuto was a stamp collector who loved to send handwritten notes to his children.

Wherever his foreign travels took him, and when his children were studying abroad, he consistently mailed them postcards and letters.

Born in Fujian, China, in 1923, Coyiuto settled in Manila after World War 2 with his brothers.

In 1977, he became the first Filipino to join the prestigious insurance market, Lloyds of London, and founded PGAI in 1981.

PHLPost printed 40,000 copies of the stamp at a price of P16 each, 5,000 pieces of limited souvenir sheets to be sold at P55, and 2,800 pieces of the specially designed first-day cover envelope with Rosal Logo canceller. The stamps and official first-day covers are available at the SM Manila postal counter.
