PNP recalls escorts of 2025 poll bets
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will recall to Camp Crame security escorts of politicians who are running in the 2025 midterm elections, a PNP official announced yesterday.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said this is part of efforts to shield police officers from partisan politics.
Fajardo said police personnel who have relatives running in the elections would be transferred to other assignments.
“They are required to declare if they have relatives running for any position in 2025,” Fajardo told reporters.
She said the measure would ensure the neutrality of police officers and the PNP as an organization during the elections.
Fajardo said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil warned police not to influence the outcome of the elections in their areas of responsibility.
In Quezon City, police have started beefing up security in preparation for the 2025 midterm elections.
Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, director of the Quezon City Police District, said they have not monitored barangays that could be considered as election hotspots.
“We are not seeing serious political rivalries,” Maranan said.
