President Marcos gets ‘good’ satisfaction rating, Vice President Sara ‘very good’

MANILA, Philippines — Satisfaction with President Marcos decreased over the past year, but remained “good” at the end of 2023, a survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) found.

SWS vice president Gerardo Sandoval presented the trends in satisfaction ratings of top government officials during the 2024 SWS Survey Review held at the Asian Institute of Management on Thursday.

Latest survey results conducted last December 2023 showed that Marcos obtained a net satisfaction rating of “good” +47, down from the “very high” +68 he obtained in December 2022. It slightly recovered from the +44 he obtained in September 2023.

The net satisfaction rating is obtained by subtracting those who said they were dissatisfied from those who were satisfied with the performance of the government official.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of at least +70 as “excellent;” +50 to +69 as “very “good;” +30 to +49 as “good;” +10 to +29 as “moderate;” +9 to -9 as “neutral;” -10 to -29 as “poor;” -30 to -49 as “bad;” -50 to -69 as “very bad;” and -70 and below as “execrable.”

Details of the survey results, including the percentage of those who were satisfied and dissatisfied with Marcos, have yet to be released.

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte obtained a net satisfaction rating of “very good” +61 in the December survey.

Although still higher among top government officials, it is still below the “excellent” +77 that she obtained in December 2022.

Like Marcos, her rating also slightly recovered from the +57 she obtained in September 2023.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri obtained a net satisfaction rating of “good” +44, Speaker Martin Romualdez “moderate” +28 and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo “good” +32.

The SWS fourth quarter survey had 1,200 adult respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus 2.8 percent.

The trends seen in the SWS poll mirror the results of the separate survey conducted by OCTA Research group, which showed that Marcos and Duterte’s ratings slightly recovered after a slump most of last year.

Results of the Dec. 10 to 14 survey released last Tuesday found that 71 percent of respondents were satisfied with the performance of Marcos.
